Colton's Journey to India
Colton was born with a rare neurodegenerative disorder, called late infantile Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis (NCL). NCL causes abnormal storage material to accumulate in almost all cell types and tissues in the body, leading to seizures, cognitive decline, and progressive vision and motor skill loss. At eight years old, Colton and his team of family members, health practitioners, and other supporters travelled to India for stem cell brain surgery, an unproven but potential cure for his disorder.
Project Possibility began as a series of fundraising initiatives to get Colton to India, starting with a kickoff event attended by family, friends, other supporters, and a couple of celebrity guests. Following the event, supporters took part in 21 Days to Possibility, an initiative in which they committed to a goal for 21 days and had family and friends sponsor them by donating to Project Possibility. With this support, Colton was able to undergo surgery.
Post-India Health Support
Following his surgery in India, Project Possibility’s focus shifted to continually supporting Colton’s health. Many people from Colton’s support system and beyond fundraised through events such as Bowling to Possibility and Dancing to Possibility. These funds helped to cover many of Colton's health-related expenses, from integrated medical supplies to appointments with alternative practitioners and equipment and tools (e.g., wheelchairs, ceiling tracking). Thanks to his surgery and rigorous integrated health regime, Colton lived to be almost 15 years old, with the support of many through Project Possibility.
Colton's Legacy
The care Colton received at home and in India had a considerable impact on his life and the lives of those around him. Importantly, all of this was possible with the help of his extensive support system and Project Possibility. While in India, Colton recognized that other kids also needed help accessing health care. To give back, Colton wanted to help “all the kids,” especially those in India. He decided 283 was the perfect number of projects to sponsor.
Although Colton passed away in 2013, Project Possibility carries forward his wish to help others get the medical care they need. Now, with your support, Project Possibility honours Colton’s legacy by sponsoring health projects in India and internationally.
